Chris Crocker
- is an openly gay American Internet personality and self-described "edutainer" who produces and acts in transgressive videos.
- The Tennessee-based Crocker, a stage name, keeps his identity and exact location private because according to him there are safety concerns and death threats in response to his YouTube and MySpace vlogs and profile.
- His work consists mainly of short-form self-directed "monologues about life" shot in his grandparents' home.[12] As of January 2008, Crocker's videos have received a combined 43.4 million plays on MySpace, and his vlog channel on YouTube is the 19th most viewed of all time in all categories, with over 65 million views.
- Although he has produced dozens of videos, Crocker gained international notoriety from his viral video tearfully defending Britney Spears's "lackluster MTV comeback" with over four million views in two days.[15] The video received international media attention, hundreds of parodies, criticism and generated death threats for the androgynous performer.
Jeffree Star
- is an American model, fashion designer, make-up artist and singer-songwriter residing in the Los Angeles area.
- He is known for his popularity on MySpace,[6] from his gender-bending appearance as a transgressive, genderf*ck cross-dresser,[7] who dubs himself "Queen of the Internet."
- Star was born in Orange County, California. Star recalls that he "discovered that he was gay in his early childhood".[7] His father died in his childhood thus Star was left alone while his working model mother went on assignments. He began experimenting with his mother's makeup at a young age, leading to an obsessive compulsive interest,[7] and convinced his mom to let him wear make-up to school when he was in junior high.
- On weekends, Star recounts using a "fake ID to attend Hollywood clubs dressed in mini dresses and nine inch high heels where celebrities would contract him for make-up work at their homes", or "hiring [Star] as a model."[10] He reports that his weekend partying at clubs and the make-up advice he gave was the foundation to his modeling career.
